What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
For over 25 years the YMCA has provided programmes that offer a safe and positive learning environment for young people in education, training and employment related skills.
Our FREE COURSES aim to raise self-esteem, confidence, and motivation to develop life skills in each student so they can realise their potential and achieve.
The YMCA core values are built into the design and delivery of all our education programmes.
The YMCA Education Centre, based at 12 Hereford Street, offers FREE full-time programmes for youth aged 16 – 19, who are no longer enrolled in mainstream school or other tertiary education. All courses aim to engage students with education in a positive learning environment that is supportive, fun and relevant to the needs of youth. Our programmes support the development of numeracy and literacy skills that are required by further training, the workplace, and everyday life.
As an NZQA approved provider, we offer three courses that develops skills and knowledge that assist young people with finding success in further education and training, or employment. The qualifications gained at the YMCA Education Centre are recognised by employers, and assist the application for enrolment in further education and training in universities and polytechnics, both in New Zealand and overseas. While academic progress is recognised through course completion, it is the learning of skills and the joy that students experience when opportunities are created by their efforts in education that is the real success for our learners.
Education programmes are delivered under subcontract agreement with the National Council of YMCA’s of New Zealand (NZQA Registered PTE). Refer to the Full Programme information below.
