Yoga

 
Yoga brings balance and wellbeing to the mind, body and spirit through stretching and strengthening practices (asana). It also releases stress, anxiety and tension and increases energy levels through breathing practices (pranayama) and relaxation and meditation techniques. By connecting thought, breath and posture Yoga aligns the mental physical and emotional bodies. Yoga practice brings us back to the present moment to still the mind, expand the heart and return to self.

Yoga Play is a dynamic and fast-paced flow of Ashtanga Yoga designed to help you work towards arm balances and inversions in a safe way. The pace and design allows each student to spend more time working on a posture at their own level but also with the guidance of a teacher.

Yoga courses run for 8 weeks, cost $45 YMCA members/$90 non-members
Regular attendance at Yoga classes or completion of the Beginner’s course is a minimum course prerequisite for Yoga Play.

 

 

Pilates

 
Pilates provides a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training, engaging the mind and conditioning the whole body.

Pilates works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion with a particular focus on strengthening the core or “power house” (abdominal, back and pelvic areas).

Quality of movement rather than quantity is the focus, combining breathing techniques, precision of movement and concentration to enable the body to work as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.

Course Dates

These courses introduce the fundamentals of Pilates training and are a prerequisite to attending the Pilates intermediate classes (on the group fitness timetable). First class is compulsory.

How to Register

You can register and pay online here, please note there is a small booking fee associated with paying online.

Alternatively, you come into the Bishopdale Recreation Centre and sign up at reception.
