YMCA Christchurch is excited to announce we have signed an agreement with a local Blenheim property group to create a much needed value-accommodation option in the centre of Blenheim.
YMCA Christchurch has for decades delivered high quality value-accommodation to a range of groups and individuals in our 260 bed central Christchurch accommodation, as well as at our two rural outdoor centres in Akaroa and Arthur’s Pass. This opportunity was one which helps to solve a significant accommodation shortage in Blenheim while also allowing the YMCA to reach out into the community. It is our intention that our contribution to Blenheim extends over time to more than just accommodation.
The YMCA is well known across New Zealand and the globe for the work we do in youth development, sport and recreation, education, events and tourism.
Our philosophy is not to come into a community and deliver in competition with others, where we work best is in partnership with others, using our skills and resources to meet gaps in provision – whatever they may be.
A need was identified for more accommodation in Blenheim – particularly to service groups who visit the area for the purposes of using the Sports Stadium 2000 and the ASB Theatre Marlborough. As well as this there is a burgeoning tourism market in Blenheim but a lack of short-term, good quality value-accommodation for tourists.
The 90+ bed facility in Scott Street open it’s doors in February or March 2020. The property will be operated and managed by the YMCA – and will mirror the standard and quality of the YMCA in Christchurch.
