Street Prints
Ōtautahi 2017

Kia Atawhai Ki Te Iwi
Care for the People

In December 2017, YMCA Christchurch in association with PAINT (Pushing Art in New Zealand Trust), presented Street Prints Ōtautahi 2017.

This street art festival saw large scale murals painted in and around the central city, New Brighton and Lyttelton – bolstered and complimented by a diverse range of events and activities for all ages, between 21 December and 29 December 2017.

PAINT is a charitable trust whose purpose is to create opportunities to promote and support street art for urban beautification, creativity and positive economic outcomes for New Zealand. Together, YMCA Christchurch and PAINT, delivered a street art festival celebrated all forms of street art including street dance, theatre and music as well as adding to Christchurch’s already impressive collection of large scale street murals.

Street Prints Ōtautahi 2017 selected ten aspiring young artists to be involved – creating their own art and learning from the amazing line up of local and international artists involved. This ambitious apprenticeship programme offered a chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity to work closely with some of the best artists in the world.
