ECE Teachers/Kaiako

We are looking for Early Learning Teachers (a mix of beginner and experienced kaiako) to provide professional curriculum, pedagogy and practice that ensures excellent care and education for children through professional relationships and engagement in all aspects of teaching and learning with fellow teachers, management and whanau, to support the successful operation of the centre in a way which aligns with YMCA mission, purpose and values.

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • Early Childhood Teaching Qualification Recognised by the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (OR Primary School Teaching Qualification)
  • Current Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand Practicing Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a focus on working with young children in an ever changing environment
  • The ability to cope with change and the demands of a busy Early Learning Education Centre

Volunteer Programme Instructors

YMCA Wainui Park
YMCA Wainui Park offers a unique volunteer work and training experience for aspiring outdoor instructors, tertiary students who require ‘work experience’ in the area of outdoor leadership, and young adults on their ‘overseas experience’ who have worked for outdoor centres or YMCAs in their home country.

We are currently recruiting volunteer instructional staff for the next season which starts in September 2019.

Volunteer programme staff who are committed for the season live on site in shared accommodation, and receive a small weekly expense allowance as well as training, meals, internet access, vehicle access and a ready-made group of like minded friends!

Holiday Programme Supervisors

We are always looking for passionate, outgoing and reliable individuals to supervise our busy school holiday programmes!

We need supervisors that are at least 20 years of age, have a current First Aid Certificate, and have a good understanding and experience of working with young people.

We currently run active, creative, performing and general programmes, which you will help create, plan and develop.

This is full time work while school holidays are running, with up to 6 hours of additional paid training prior to the programme starting.

Holiday Programme Volunteers

Working on a holiday programme is a fantastic way to develop leadership skills and gain experience working with people. Holiday programmes are a huge amount of fun and a very valuable way to give back to the community and gain invaluable skills. Each school holiday period the YMCA runs up to 8 different programmes all over Christchurch City!

As a volunteer leader you will work as part of a team, alongside and experienced supervisor, to run the programme. You can expect to get involved wi the kids, manage your group and the behaviours, role model a positive attitude and have a great experience!

Some of the activities you may be involved in are: movies, tenpin bowling, mini-golf, swimming, Antarctic Centre, sports, art & crafts, outdoor adventure days, inddor climbing and the list goes on! You will be required between the hours of 8:30am to 5pm, and must be 15yrs or over.
