School Camp Safe Fun and Stress Free
YMCA Wainui Park in Akaroa Harbour is purpose built for groups of people to come to stay and enjoy the environment, the outdoors and spend time together without a lot of complicated 'organisational' logistics.
The staff at Wainui camp know how to organise groups. This is your stress free one-stop-shop for your school camp, church camp or community group retreat or training session.
We offer a range of accommodation options, catering or self-catering options, and endless programme activities with professional equipment and instructors.
Accommodation at Wainui Park
Wainui Park Facilities offer a choice of tent site camping, cabin bunk rooms, or lodge-style ensuited conference accommodation. All are popular choices for schools, church groups and community groups who tend to opt either for Wainui Heights (conference centre) or Powell Village (cabins). Powell is a site not suited to Winter camps - and would not be recommended for June, July or August camps unless you are really wanting to rough it!
Catering at Wainui Park
We have a full-time catering manager on site and team of great cooks. Take the hassle and worry of organising menus, buying food, transporting food, cooking food, cleaning kitchens and dealing with leftovers - just get us to do it! A range of menus are on offer across two budget brackets.
- Rumbly Tums Menu: Seasonally variable but good standard home cooked camp fare that we know children, in particular will eat! This menu is lighter on the wallet but does require some adult helpers to pitch in when it comes time to getting the dishes done. From $21 per child per day (3 meals).
- Wainui Country Cuisine Buffet: Seasonally variable with more of a focus on feeding adults - a wide range of options and great for the family camps with a wide age range or the community group which is predominantly adults. This menu does not require any helpers in the kitchen when it comes time to do the dishes. From $42 per adult per day (3 meals).
- Custom built: We are happy to work out a special menu for you according to your budget. Just talk to us about your needs.
Programme at Wainui Park
At Wainui the feedback we consistently hear is that our programme is what makes Wainui so memorable and special. We have a long list of activities to choose from and we will design a programme that suits the learning outcomes and goals of your group, the timeframe you have, and most importantly, your budget. This is the part of camping that YMCA staff know best: how to take people outside to learn, to develop, to have fun.
