Youth Training Opportunities- School leavers to 18 years
The YMCA offers a range of FREE fulltime courses for young people who are no longer enrolled in mainstream school or other tertiary training.
They are aimed at developing resiliency, lifeskills, independence, personal boundaries and values - while also delivering outcomes such as NCEA credits and progressing into further training or employment.
Tika Tonu (Achieve with Purpose)
This programme aims to re-connect and engage young people with education and learning by working within a small group, which caters for individual learning needs. Achieving NCEA Level 1 is the fundamental aim of this course.
S.P.O.R.T. (Te Takaro)
Strength, Participation, Organisation, Recreation, Transition
Utilising sport to generate motivation, increase fitness, build self esteem and develop leadership skills - creating a positive future for those involved.
Employ Me (Work Experience)
A fresh start for young people wishing to enter the world of work! We create many practical opportunities for developing knowledge and skills that employers want. A series of stepping stones towards employment within a supportive, small group environment. Planning for a positive future.
L.I.F.E (Te Ora)
Lifeskills, Integration, Foundation, Education
Helping young people achieve in education by changing behaviours and attitudes. Confidence and self esteem is developed by providing a stable supportive environment with one-on-one guidance and mentoring offered by the tutor.
