Wainui Park Akaroa
YMCA Wainui Park is Canterbury's best kept secret. A one-stop-shop for accommodation, conference / camping services and outdoor programmes, Wainui Park is a favourite venue for a huge number of schools, community groups and corporate groups from all over the South Island.
Located in a sheltered valley, 1km from the sea of Akaroa Harbour and just one hour and ten minutes drive from Christchurch. This is getting away from it all without too much travelling.
The harbour provides a relatively low-risk aquatic environment for water-based pursuits and swimming. Woodpigeons, kingfishers, fantails, quail and bellbirds abound. It is a magical place regardless of the weather - which is changeable and sometimes dramatic!
We have something to offer all types of groups, as well as a campground open to families and individuals (the only campground in Wainui).
School groups at Wainui can enjoy a range of activities with a team of staff whose expertise lies predominantly in running school camping programmes, youth work and adventure based learning.
Community groups and corporate groups can utilise Wainui Park for a get-away or staff training / team building experience that offers something quite different to an urban location, with scenery, environment and outdoor activities that cannot be duplicated anywhere else.
