Education Outside the Classroom
The YMCA is arguably the most experienced organisation in Christchurch when it comes to working with groups of school-aged children and young people.
We have been providing Outdoor Education for schools of Christchurch - both at the City Y and at Wainui Park - for over 80 years. We know this business and our staff really enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of working with groups of children and youth.

The City Y Outdoors Team can provide team building, outdoor education and specialised training and development courses or one-off adventure days for your school group - depending entirely on your needs, your budget and your time frame.
With a huge climbing wall on site we have plenty of space to provide activities on site - or alternatively work with your group at your school or somewhere else - outside or a different venue? We have the whole of Hagley Park on our doorstep...
Popular options for school groups include: abseiling and climbing (indoor or outdoor), Tyrolean Traverse and other adventure based learning activities, kayaking (flat water or in the surf), hiking on the hills, Orienteering, Coasteering, Amazing Races (city based or rural), High Ropes (Brighton course), skiing and snow-skills (Winter only), environmental education, leadership development, peer support training and many many more.
All are offered attached to an affordable price, with qualified and experienced instructors whose passion is working with young people.

Day-trippers are welcome if you just want to take your bus full of students to Wainui for a day of action - High Ropes, Abseiling, Archery, Coasteering, Hiking, Orienteering, Environmental Ed, Adventure Based Learning, Snorkelling (Summer only), Wharf Jumping and many other options to boot.
If you stay the night the evening activities add to the fun.
