Alternative Education
We offer a unique and alternative style of education for 14 and 15 year olds who for whatever reason did not manage in mainstream schooling. Teaching takes place in a relaxed, fun and supportive learning environment.
Our tutors have designed this course to reflect the YMCA’s core values of respect, responsibility, caring and honesty toward yourself and others.
What does the course include?
ü Focus subjects of Numeracy and Literacy.
ü Incorporation and delivery of the NZ Curriculum Framework Essential Learning Areas and Essential Skills.
ü NCEA Level 1 Units.
We can help you to:
ü Enjoy learning and achieving at Year 9, 10 and 11.
ü Participate in a Physical Education Programme
ü Experience Tikanga Maori
ü Improve your attitudes, self confidence and self development.
ü Participate within a team environment.
ü Set and achieve goals.
Our tutors deliver a programme which is designed to cater to the individual needs of each student, this is ensured through the creation and implementation of an Individual Development Plan.
YMCA Alternative Education runs according to the same terms as the school year and eligible students can start at any time.
