Adventure Conservation
Adventure Conservation is a FREE 20 week course for 16-25 year olds based at the YMCA Education Centre in Christchurch.
Adventure Conservation is an employment skills and personal development training programme aimed at raising confidence and self-esteem through involvement as a member of a team working together on conservation and community projects.
What does it include?
· Fun through recreation involving challenging pursuits and activities.
· Challenge confidence and skills through water based activities including kayaking, sailing and diving.
· Building confidence through rock climbing, abseiling and caving.
· Adventure and skills in all areas of bush craft including tramping and camping.
· YMCA Adventure Conservation certificate assessed with NZQA standards.
· Te Ao Maori programmes which involves understanding of the Maori perspective of life in the country.
· Gain qualifications in First Aid, Learners Licence and NZQA Units.
Adventure Conservation offers opportunities,
step by step, that aim to build the participants self esteem and ability to
move on to a positive career path. In
line with the Youth Development Strategy, the YMCA builds on peoples strengths,
develops positive relationships and encourages full participation. You will get the chance to relate at a close
level with other young people, develop good personal work habits, increase your
fitness, gain a better understanding of our bi-cultural society and be better
equipped to enter the permanent workforce.
There are no educational or experience level qualifications required to
join the course, just a positive attitude to fully participate in all of the
course activities.
