The YMCA puts the physical and emotional safety of children and young people first.
To this end we are particular about the staff we hire and the volunteers we engage. All staff working with children and young people on our holiday programmes and camps undertake a careful screening and selection process followed by special training. This includes:
- Police vett
- 2 referree checks
- CV check - appropriate training/education, prior experience etc
- Interview
- Training
- Trial period
- Performance evaluations after each period of engagement
The YMCA of Christchurch holds Child Youth & Family Approval which regularly audits our systems, policies and procedures and approves against legislation and best practice.
In addition, Wainui Park hold OutdoorsMark - a quality approval mark for best practice and safety in the Outdoors.

Climbing Wall Supervisor/ Senior Outdoor Instructor: Dave Taylor. Dave also reports to Ginny and oversees all the Outdoor Instructors who work with school groups and on holiday programmes, as well as instructing and supervising the climbing wall. Email: climb@ymcachch.org.nz
