FAQ

YMCA Holiday Programmes-FAQ

How do I enrol my child on a YMCA Holiday programme?

You have 3 options. You can book on line on www.ymcachch.org.nz, or you can enrol at the City YMCA, 12 Hereford St or Bishopdale Recreation Centre 13a Bishopdale Court.

If I want to enrol on line but I don’t have a credit card then how do I pay for my child?

You can still enrol on line and select the option to ‘pay in 3 days’. You can then come into the City YMCA or Bishopdale and make the payment.

Are your programmes covered by the Work and Income OSCAR subsidy?

Most of our day programmes are approved for an OSCAR subsidy. The programs that have approval are clearly marked on the website. You must pay for the programme in full when you enrol. Work and Income pay the subsidy directly to YMCA, and when this has been received you will be refunded the full amount of the subsidy.

How long do the programmes run for?

Programmes begin at 9am each morning and you can sign your child in between 8.4 5 -9am. They finish at 3pm. If you require longer programmes these are only available at the City YMCA by enrolling in the Morning Crew, 8 - 9am, and Time Out, 3-5pm, programmes.

Can I enrol my child for 1 or 2 days?

No. All our places are week long and you can only enroll for the whole week. If you do not intend on coming along on certain days that is fine, please inform us of this before the programme begins.

What sort of training do your staff have?

Our staff are all fantastic individuals with a real passion for working with young people. Most of our supervisors are trained or training teachers while our Activ8 supervisors are all outdoor professionals. The volunteer leaders are all aged 16 yrs+ and work with us out of their own motivation and passion, for this reason we believe we have the best team of staff possible.

All staff over 17 years are police vetted; all staff including volunteers have undergone referee checks and are required to complete the YMCA training programme before they can work on our holiday programmes.

How do I know what activities my child is doing each day and what they will need to bring to the programme?

An outline of each day’s activities is available when you download the YMCA Holiday programme calendar. You will be emailed the Thursday before the programme commences the details of what activities are planned for each day.

Each day you need to bring a packed lunch (there is no option to buy food), a drink bottle, and wear clothing appropriate to the weather and activities.

How can I contact my child on the programme in an emergency?

Please ring the City YMCA on 366 0689 or contact the Youth Development Co-ordinator on 021 022 31648, and we will get a message to the programme Supervisor to call you.

What do I do if my child/s is sick?

Regardless of what programme your child is on please ring the City YMCA on 366 0689 or alternatively text your child’s name, and that they will be absent, to 021 022 31648. If your child is absent and we have not heard from you then we ring you.

How can I give my feedback on a programme, or who do I speak to if I have any issues?

We value your feedback! At the end of each holiday period we will email out an online survey which you can complete in less than 5 minutes. If you have anything else you want to talk about please don’t hesitate to contact either the Youth Development Co-ordinator or Youth and Outdoors manager on 366 0689 or email holprog@ymcachch.org.nz.
