Friday Club
The Friday Club is a social get-together for intellectually and physically disabled adults which runs every week during the school term, with all kinds of activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, bowling, movies and indoor climbing. We also go on field trips off to WillowBank and Spencer Park or the beach, as well as having the option to enroll for a 3 day camp at the end of each year.
The Friday Club programme runs during the school term for 8 weeks, from 4pm to 6pm on Fridays.
All programmes start at the YMCA on Hereford St meeting in the cafe and depending on the activity that week we'll either be based at the Y or around town.
The club has been running for a number of years and has enjoyed a solid base of members throughout this time. We have a number of spaces available this year and would love to have some new members on board!
The club is run by a coordinator who is experienced with working as a groups, with the help of a group of volunteer leaders. Please note that our staff have not been trained specifically to work with people with disabilities, therefor those who require specialised care will be considered on a case by case basis, considering both their safety and wellbeing as well as the safety of those around them. We strive to provide a safe, caring and encouraging environment for all involved.
Registration
The cost for a term membership is $80. Camps are an extra cost. Call Ginny on 9632825 or email holprog@ymcachch.org.nz to ask for the current brochure with registration form.
Numbers for the Friday Club are limited, so get in quick and have the time of your life at the YMCA! There are some YMCA Subsidies available for those who may not be able to afford the full fee.
Volunteering/Staff
If you are interested in Volunteering as staff to help run Friday Club please contact Ginny on 9632825. It's a great way to learn more about people who have a disability and also a chance to help this group get the most out of their activities.
