Education Centre
We are looking for a full time Youth Guarantee tutor. The YMCA Christchurch Education Centre is a NZQA registered and accredited provider specialising in running foundation level courses for youth. The TEC funded Youth Guarantee programme offers second-chance education to 16-19 years old who have left school and want to attain a national certificate qualification within a non-mainstream school education setting.

The successful applicant must be willing to collaborate in a learning environment and have a commitment to lifelong learning. The work is as challenging as it is rewarding, for the right type of teacher/tutor/youth worker.

The person we seek must:

  • Have knowledge and experience in teaching and/or youth work
  • Have strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills
  • Have established local networks in the youth development sector
  • Have a full driver’s licence

    Evening Cleaner

    The YMCA Christchurch provides an accommodation service & health fitness facilities situated in a fantastic central city location next to the Botanic Gardens, Arts Centre and the Canterbury Museum.

    We are looking for an evening/late night Cleaner to join our dynamic crew on a permanent full-time basis. We are open seven days a week and you must be flexible to work weekends and public holidays.


    • Clean all allocated YMCA facilities including gym, changing rooms and public bathrooms plus outside areas.
    • Undertake special projects.
    • Follow correct procedures for all lost and found property items.
    • Report all maintenance problems, damaged equipment and missing items.

    – all of this while still representing the core values of the YMCA!

    Volunteer Programme Instructors

    YMCA Wainui Park
    YMCA Wainui Park offers a unique volunteer work and training experience for aspiring outdoor instructors, tertiary students who require ‘work experience’ in the area of outdoor leadership, and young adults on their ‘overseas experience’ who have worked for outdoor centres or YMCAs in their home country.

    We are currently recruiting volunteer instructional staff for the next season which starts in September 2016.

    Volunteer programme staff who are committed for the season live on site in shared accommodation, and receive a small weekly expense allowance as well as training, meals, internet access, vehicle access and a ready-made group of like minded friends!

    Holiday Programme Supervisors

    YMCA City
    We are always looking for passionate, outgoing and reliable individuals to supervise our busy school holiday programmes!

    We need supervisors that are at least 20 years of age, have a current First Aid Certificate, and have a good understanding and experience of working with young people.

    We currently run active, creative, performing and general programmes, which you will help create, plan and develop.

    This is full time work while school holidays are running, with up to 6 hours of additional paid training prior to the programme starting.

    Holiday Programme Volunteers

    YMCA City
    Working on a holiday programme is a fantastic way to develop leadership skills and gain experience working with people. Holiday programmes are a huge amount of fun and a very valuable way to give back to the community and gain invaluable skills. Each school holiday period the YMCA runs up to 8 different programmes all over Christchurch City!

    As a volunteer leader you will work as part of a team, alongside and experienced supervisor, to run the programme. You can expect to get involved wi the kids, manage your group and the behaviours, role model a positive attitude and have a great experience!

    Some of the activities you may be involved in are: movies, tenpin bowling, mini-golf, swimming, Antarctic Centre, sports, art & crafts, outdoor adventure days, inddor climbing and the list goes on! You will be required between the hours of 8:30am to 5pm, and must be 15yrs or over.
